frog paper craft for kids

Here’s an easy frog papercraft for kids – make a fun, bouncy frog on a lily pad using our printable template. It’s just been updated to include an all-in-one print and colour version.

This idea is perfect for spring crafting or for a unit on amphibians or life cycles.

We love frog crafts here at The Craft Train!

This super cute frog on a lily pad is based on a template I created for my girls waaaay back when we put together a tadpole-to-frog observation tank.

They were preschoolers at the time, but this papercraft is great for older kids too. Being one of the very first templates in our store, I decided it was high time for an update.

Updated frog template

The new, improved 2024 version includes:

  • A print-and-colour line art version designed to be printed to white card stock
  • The original version designed to be printed to coloured card paper. We’ve added extra pages to this version too, including gue-on paper eyes, paper spring strips, a tongue strip and optional glue-on lilypad lines

In the original hero image (on the sparkle background), the frog has been decorated with dot stickers, including the eyes. You can still do it this way if you like, but the printable eyes make an easy option especially if you have no dot stickers on hand.

Age recommendation is 6+, however, younger kids could also make this with some adult help.

Card stock is recommended for this craft, but paper will also work.

How to make the frog paper craft

You will need:

  • This printable template, also available in our TPT store
  • Card stock in assorted bright colours or white, depending on which version you make
  • Markers, pencils or crayons if colouring your own
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Ruler
  • Optional dot stickers

How to

Print as per instructions in the template for the version you select.

Frog on a lilypad craft colour-in version

Above is the colour-in version. Below, the coloured paper version.

Coloured paper version

If using the colour-in version, colour the frog, lily pad and tongue. If using the coloured paper version, colour the tongue and lily pad lines.

Cut out the shapes.

If making the coloured paper version, glue on the eyes and decorate the frog with dot stickers or coloured markers. Also glue the lily pad lines onto the lily pad, then trim with scissors to fit.

Curl the tongue around a pencil and glue on. If you want it to be red both sides like in the original picture, cut a thin strip from red construction paper instead of using the template strip.

Frog craft steps

Make a bouncy paper spring by sticking the paper strips at right angles to each other and folding over each other until it becomes a spring.

Glue the paper spring to the lily pad and stick the frog to the spring.

Voila! You now have a bouncy paper frog.
