Make an adorable set of paper cats using our printable template. There are seven freestanding cats to choose from, based on both popular breeds and mixed breeds.
All come in full colour and colour-your own and are very easy to make. The only additional materials you need are light card stock, a glue stick and pair of scissors.
This is a perfect craft for anyone who loves cats (not just kids!). It’s suitable for ages 6 and up.

I looooove designing animal crafts. If you’re one of our regular readers, you may have guessed that already.
It hit me recently that while I have lots of wild animal crafts, I don’t have enough pet-based animal crafts. That’s a huge oversight!
I’m on a mission to fix it. Last week we shared some super fun 3D cat doodle art, featuring a stylised cat. Now we also have this set of freestanding paper cats to go with it.
It was difficult to choose what types of cats to include, so I gave up trying to narrow it down and created seven feline friends.
You might recognise a Siamese, Persian and Tabby. The rest are just cute cats based on no particular breed.
I wasn’t going to make a black cat because it’s so Halloween-ish, but my teen daughter insisted that cat lovers would be very disappointed if there were no black cat in the set.
There are multiple people in my family with cat allergies, including myself. So these cute paper pets are as close to the real deal as we’ll ever get (unfortunately for my girls—I’m asked if we can pleeeeeease get a cat at least once a week).
If you have a cat at home and want to make one just like yours, there’s an unpatterned blank cat you can colour to look the same as your own included in the set.
Want to make one? Here’s how …
How to make a paper cat
You will need:
- The template, available from our printables store as well as our TPT store
- Light card stock in white
- Glue stick – a good quality brand is recommended when working with card stock. I always use UHU (affiliate link)
- Scissors
- Markers, crayons or pencils if colouring your own
- Optional cutting mat, ruler and scoring tool or butter knife
How to:
Print the template to card stock. If using the colour-your-own version, colour the cat in.
Cut out the shapes.
Optional – Use your scoring tool, ruler and cutting mat to create indents along the paw and neck fold lines. This step makes folding easier and neater.
Fold the neck tab down and the front feet forward. Fold the back feet backwards (they will be facing forward when you glue the body together).
Bend into a cylinder shape and glue the tab to hold in place.
Glue the head and tail on. It’s optional whether you want to fold the tail or not.
Now all that’s left to do is name them!
Above we have Ginger, Percy, Princess and Otis.
