We love kid-friendly ghost crafts here at The Craft Train.
Ghosts don’t have to be scary, you can make them, cute, funny, happy, or give them that classic ‘O’ shaped mouth. Because we all know ghosts hang around saying “ooooooo” day and night, right?
Our printable template includes four different pre-designed facial expressions as well as blank so that kids can draw their own ghost faces if they prefer.
Black card stock works great as a base colour for this craft, but if you want to make your ghosts more fun and playful use any colour.
The face shapes are created as outlines only so kids can colour them and add their own details. They can give the ghosts tongues and teeth or make their eyes different colours and the pupils different shapes.
For the facial details in the example ghosts, I’ve used paint pens because that’s what I grabbed out of the cupboard first, but markers, pencils or crayons would also work.

How to make a 3D paper ghost
You will need:
- Card stock in white for ghost plus two colours for background
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Markers, pencils, crayons, etc
How to:
Print your ghost shape of choice to white. Print the shadow shapes to a sheet of coloured paper (alternatively, print to white and colour it yourself).
Colour the eyes and mouth in, adding details like pupils, tongue and shading if you want.
Cut the shapes out.
Glue the coloured shadow shape that corresponds to your ghost shape (A or B) to your sheet of backing paper.
Fold the tabs on your ghost body, then glue in place over the shadow so it creates a curved body shape.
Glue arms on.
But a single ghost on his own is going to get lonely. Make him some friends!
I love the effect of the brightly-coloured background shadow.
