Make a festive candy cane reindeer card to sweeten someone’s Christmas! The template also provides an option to create a reindeer with paper antlers if you’d prefer to skip the sugar.
This card idea is perfect for kids aged 6+ to make for somebody special.
Everyone loves a handmade card at Christmas, and this reindeer is an extra-yummy one with her candy cane antlers! And she looks just as cute with paper antlers.
The steps involve basic cutting, folding, gluing and some hot glue at the end to hold the candy canes in place. You can buy low temp hot glue guns for kids (affiliate link), but if you’re concerned about safety have an adult do this step.
The inside of the card is blank so kids can add in a personalised hand-written message.
You can also use this template to make a fun reindeer gift bag!
Card stock is ideal for this craft, as paper will be too flimsy to hold candy canes. Also, antlers made from printer paper may be too floppy.
To make Rudolph, use the white nose and colour red with markers.
Lets get started …
How to make a candy cane reindeer card
You will need
- The printable template, available in our shop as well as our TPT store
- Card stock in white and brown
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Markers, pencils, crayons, etc
If making the candy cane version
- Candy canes 13cm/5” in size (2 per card)
- Hot glue gun
How to
Print the reindeer head shape to brown card stock and the face and antler shapes to white card stock.
Colour the inner ears and Rudolph nose (if using). Cut the nose, eyes, antlers and inner ears out.
Cut the head shape out and fold in half along the fold line (the fold line is missing in the images, but I added it after photographing to make it easier for kids to find the exact middle of the card base).
Cut the mouth, ears, eyes and nose out and glue them on.
Glue the blank white head shape onto the inside of the card.
If making the paper antler reindeer, glue the paper antlers to the back of the folded card.
If making the candy cane version, hot glue two candy canes to the back.
Ta-da! Your gorgeous Reindeer card is ready. Now all you need to do is need to give her a name.
To make a reindeer gift bag, cut the back off the card, hot glue the candy cane antlers to the back, then hot glue the other side of the candy canes to a blank paper gift bag
Happy Christmas!
