We love doodle art here at The Craft Train! It’s easy enough for most people over the age of 8 (or for younger kids who have the patience and fine motor skills to create detailed patterns).

Patterning is also relaxing and a good way to practice mindfulness because it doesn’t require much thought and puts the artist into a ‘flow’ state. Some people call it zentangle art.

There are tons of ways to incorporate doodling into art projects, like this simple handprint doodle art exercise.

Sometimes, when you have the project in front of you with the sections drawn up, it’s difficult to come up with enough patterning ideas. It works best to use patterns that are a nice contrast and not too similar to the patterns you’ve already used. That’s where this template comes in handy!

The printable includes two sheets of pre-designed pattern swatches, plus a blank sheet to fill with your own ideas.
