What’s more fun in summer than spending time in the great outdoors? Most kids love camping. Hiking can be hard work (in Australia we call it bushwalking), but it’s always fun until the big stair-climb out of the valley, haha.

Canoeing is awesome too, but in my experience it always looks way easier than it actually is.

I hope you get the chance to do these adventurous activities in real life with your kids, but for the rainy indoor days, or those “I’m bored” moments at home, an outdoor-themed board game is the next best thing.

For little kids, board games provide counting and number recognition practice, along with basic addition and subtraction. For all ages (yes, even adults), they’re an exercise in patience and being a good sport when you don’t win. And always, they’re a way for families to connect and spend time together.

If you have long-distance travel happening over your holiday break, these games are a good addition to your kids’ travel activity bag (remember to pack some dice and counters too!).
