These reindeer pasta sculptures make a cute Christmas decoration.

This craft idea is best for older kids or tweens, but younger kids can join in by threading pasta onto pipe cleaners to make wreaths or abstract sculptures of their own design.

They might be a little bit quirky, but I think these reindeer are kind of cute at the same time.

You  can make some too if you have pasta tubes and pipe cleaners in your house because it doesn’t take more than that (unless you want to make a Rudolph then you’ll need a red pom pom too!).

My kids joined in with this crafting session but the ended up making simple wreaths instead with beads and bells as well as pasta. They love to put their own spin on whatever materials I set out!

How to make Reindeer pasta sculptures

For each reindeer you will need

• 4 pipe cleaners of the same colour
• 4 pieces of thin pasta tubes
• 3 pieces of wider pasta tubes
• 6 pieces of small straight tubes

You’ll have to forgive me because I’ve thrown the packets for these pasta varieties away and can’t remember the proper name for each, so they are all “tubes” in this post.

How to

The how-to probably sounds more complicated than it is, so I’ve made a labelled image to give a (hopefully) clearer picture of how you can make them…

Basically you make this in two pieces and then join them together. Each piece is two pipe cleaners twisted and looped together through pieces of pasta, and each pipe cleaner begins at a foot. Once you get the hang of it it’s pretty easy.

Here is an aerial view of the piece that makes up the back legs, body and head. The second piece has just the front legs, half of the neck and the antlers.

Join the pieces together by twisting at the base of the neck, then looping each pipe cleaner around an ear and bending into the shape of an antler. My antlers look like capital F’s.

Once you’ve made one it’ll be a pice of cake to make a few friends to join in some reindeer games.

Glue on or twist pipe cleaner around a red pom pom to make a little Rudolph nose. All done!

The girls adore their little reindeer toys!
