Pumpkin slime recipe

Create some ooey, gooey pumpkin slime with this recipe by contributor Jennifer from Sugar, Spice and Glitter.

This is a fun sensory play activity for kids, and they will also enjoy the science aspect of making it too.

Note: Slime is not safe to put in your mouth so avoid giving it children to under the age of 3 and supervise when making with younger kids

My kids looooove slime. They like to experiment and mix the ingredients together themselves (which can get a tad messy), but it makes them so happy that I let them do it anyway.

We do set some ground rules though. They are: if you make it you clean it up, and no slime in carpeted bedrooms. But, overall it’s a lot of fun and I love that it keeps them away from screens for a while.

How to make pumpkin slime

You will need

• 1 5oz bottle Elmer’s Clear Glue
• 1/4 to 1/2 cup warm water, as needed
• 1/4 to 1/2 cup Liquid Starch, as needed – note, you can replace the liquid starch with powdered borax mixed in warm water (stir 1/4 teaspoon borax into 1/2 cup warm water – add as needed in place of the liquid starch). Liquid starch is unavailable in Australia.
• Pumpkin Glitter or orange food colouring

How to

1. Pour the clear glue into a medium-sized bowl.
2. Use a fork to stir in 1/4 cup warm water.
3. Add 1/4 cup Liquid Starch and stir well for 2 minutes.
4. Test the slime and add more water if too stiff, more Liquid Starch if too sticky.
5. Continue stirring until the slime forms into a ball, then knead for 2 minutes, adding more water or liquid starch, as needed.
6. Once the slime is stretchy and no longer sticky, knead in the glitter.
7. (Our glitter dyed the slime orange, but if yours doesn’t you can add a few drops orange food dye to achieve an orange color.)
