Where is the Green Sheep book and craft

The Green Sheep cardboard tube craft

Maybe you’ve heard of Where is The Green Sheep by Mem Fox. It was a book my girls loved when they were little, and still is a favourite for many Australian kids I’m sure. Aussie Book Week is coming up very soon (20th -26th August) with the theme being Australia, Story Country!. To celebrate book week this year I thought I’d create a Green Sheep craft from a cardboard tube. It’s very quick and easy to make. I did try to convince my kids to allow me to dress them up as a green sheep for the book week parade coming up soon but neither of them will hear of it – they have other ideas! So this little craft is all I have to content myself with as far as this book goes, but I think it turned out pretty cute.

  1. Nope! You don’t get to sidle out of it that easily!

You MUST tell us your idea for a book week costume sheep.

If you don’t, I’ll…I’ll… well, I don’t know what I’ll do, but it’ll be pretty dire!

(In fact, I think EVERYONE should have to share book week costume ideas. Because I am a dry well this year…)

    1. It would have been a pretty basic costume but it looks good in my head. I’m thinking green tights with a green long sleeved top, layered over the top with an oversized green tee shirt with swirls drawn in black permanent or fabric marker. I’d make a mask in the shape of the sheep’s head out of heavy construction paper, craft foam or felt. Wear black socks and shoes and some black socks or black gloves on the hands if you have them for hoofs. But I’m making Koala Lou and a penguin from those treehouse books for my kids in a pretty similar way.

      1. Wonderful! Yes! So effective to draw swirls onto a green top – great thinking.

I’m so happy that my son is getting a classroom visit from a real, live author in book week. Authors are wonderful and we appreciate you so much!
