What’s your favourite flower?

I confess that mine are tulips, with roses coming in a close second. Pansies are up there too though, battling it out for third place with the cosmos flowers.

But why settle for just one favourite flower when you can make a “wall garden” filled with all your favourites?

Scrape painting is fun and easy! That’s why I have so many projects featuring this technique. It always turns out great and you don’t need to be a skilled artist to pull it off—kids can do it just fine.

For these pansies, we’ve used used craft sticks to scrape the paint in a straight, vertical scrape across a page. A squeegee would also work. You can read more about craft stick scrape painting as it’s own activity here.

I’ve left the pansy flower craft for last with this series because it’s slightly more complicated to cut out and glue together than the other flowers. This is because there are more shapes and they need to be layered in a particular order to create the flower. It’s still very easy though!

Our flowers turned out so pretty. I love their crinkle-edged leaves!

Extra Tips

  • Keep the cut-off paper scraps. The centre dot and colour patch in the middle of our pansies are made from scraps left over from other flowers in the collection.
  • I suggest printing the templates to card stock because this makes them easier to trace around (especially for little hands), although paper will also work.

The finished flowers are quite large, but are still the smallest of this series. A single bloom would make a cute DIY kid-made gift for Mother’s Day.

Note: Scrape art can get messy. Make sure you have plenty of newspaper on hand to protect your furniture.
